Clarke County Hospital Announces 2021 Daisy Award Winner
May 14, 2021
Created in 1999, nurses are nominated for the Daisy Award by anyone in the organization - patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians, and staff - anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
The 2021 CCH Daisy Award was presented to Vicki Lande on May 11, 2021. Vicki was nominated by CCH Pharmacist, Michele Evink:
"Vicki Lande continuously amazes me with her ability to connect with patients at a very deep level. This week, I found out that her relationship with an older patient was tremendously special.
Over the years, this patient and his wife, had many times when they used CCH’s services. He came to rely on many people in the hospital, but especially Vicki. He would seek her out when he came to visit the hospital. She, in turn, went to visit him after he was admitted to the nursing home. When the patient died, he had several nurses he asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. One of his pallbearers was unable to serve, and Vicki was asked to serve in this persons place. There is something extraordinary in seeing Vicki carrying him to his final resting place.
A core promise of our mission is compassionate care. I don’t see how care could be more compassionate than the model Vicki provided in her care toward this patient and his family. Vicki delivers personal, compassionate and excellent care with her heart and her hands. She is a model for us all."
CCH congratulates Vicki and thanks her for the inspiration she provides us all!
Vicki Lande is a Registered Nurse at Clarke County Hospital. She has worked in several different departments over her 27 year tenure at CCH and currently is a Patient Care Coordinator in Med-Surg.
